Rather than focusing on a one percent chance, let’s muster up one percent of courage. Because 1 is more than zero. And even if we have 1% courage, we can do something.
In our relationships with others, we cannot just be present. We need to be involved. Being present is like being a Scarecrow in the field, useless in preventing the birds from gnawing at the fruits. We need to be involved, actively, protecting and assuring those around us that we are not only just present, but active to help, to walk, to give.
Once again we see God's unfathomable mercy. Our Father God, when we come to him repentant, draws, from our wretchedness, treasure; from our weakness, strength. What then will he prepare for us, if we don't forsake him, if we go to him daily, if we talk lovingly to him and confirm our love with deeds, if we go to him for everything, trusting in his almighty power and mercy?
Don't get angry when your pride is attacked, get angry when a principle is at stake. Never fight when you get attacked, but fight when truth is at stake. Jesus didn't take anything personally, not even on the cross. Meekness is not to lose your coolheadness. It's to stay calm in the face of adversity. During the passion, everyone was amok, except our lord. He was the only meek one. To have "ice in my veins", the coolness, the steadiness.
