immediacy of contrition

Make acts of contrition
Don’t be surprised, for the just man falls seven times, and gets up each time.[10] In our spiritual combat, failures will not be lacking. But when faced with our mistakes, our errors, we should react immediately and make an act of contrition. It will come to our hearts and to our lips as quickly as blood rushes to a wound, and will successfully resist the foreign body, the germ of infection.
As I live, declares the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel? And you, son of man, say to your people, “The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him when he transgresses; and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall by it when he turns from his wickedness, and the righteous shall not be able to live by his righteousness when he sins” (Ezek 33:11-12).
