1. Disctracton 
-prayer demands concentration and discipline
- Loss of sense of vigilance
- prayer is about the expectancy of the coming of Christ. And we need to always do the lord's will daily and to have that spirit of vigilance that Christ is coming, hence, to pray till the day of the Lord comes.
- we have forgotten to await the coming of the lord. That's why the prayer life diminishes. The heart no longer becomes vigilant

2. Period of dryness, desolation and the lack of perseverance 

3. Acedia, or sloth
- not wanting to pray due to spiritual fatigue, leading to abandonment of prayer
